Gemma Atkinson breaks silence on ‘rough patch’ with Gorka Marquez as he works abroad
GEMMA Atkinson took to social media this evening to address reports she’s going through a “rough patch” with fiancé Gorka Marquez.
The pair, who have a daughter Mia, 4, and son Thiago, six months, together, are said to battling ‘tension’ in their relationship due to Gorka’s work commitments keeping him away from the family home.
But the mum-of-two insisted the rumours were ‘not true’ and joked that she actually enjoyed the break when Gorka was working away from home.
Gemma, 39, responded to a fan who questioned if she had seen the news about her and Gorka, telling them: “Yes we did see them stories. There was a few floating around weren’t there which is news to us.
“It is what it is isn’t it. Happens all the time dunnit. It’s not true.”
She continued: “I think it’s because it was made out he’s working away a lot. He goes away Friday afternoon and comes back Sunday mornings.
“He’s hardly bloomin’ overseas is he. Crikey it’s less than 48 hours if anything it gives me a bit of peace at weekends. No offence Gorks.”
Clarifying her remarks, she added: “Well he is overseas but you know what I mean.”
Over the weekend The Mirror reported that Gemma had grown “frustrated” because she is “effectively raising two kids by herself”.
Insiders close to the couple claimed that Gorka was unable to return to the family home in Manchester during the final six weeks of Strictly Come Dancing late last year – despite being voted out in week three.
At the time Gemma opened up about how hard it was to solo parent and once her returned she told fans: “After 3 and a half weeks he’s home! Ive well and truly handed them over, bye hun. Mums off for sit down.”
And now Gorka has signed up to be a judge on the Spanish version of Strictly, known as ‘Bailando con las Estrellas’, meaning he will be spending a lot of time in Madrid for work.
Gemma and Gorka got engaged on Valentine’s Day 2021, but are yet to confirm a wedding date.
They met when Gemma competed on Strictly in 2017. Her pro partner was Aljaž Škorjanec but a romance blossomed with Gorka behind the scenes.
