I was a mum-of-3 living paycheck-to-paycheck but cleared £28k of debt in months using my ‘Bad Mom’ method
A MUM has revealed how she was able to clear £28,000 of debt in just a few months.
Becky Guiles, shared her money saving hacks via a video posted to her TikTok channel, where she is known as @freebielady.
The mum-of-three often uses the account to share money saving tips and tricks.
Her videos are very popular with social media users and she has amassed over 500,000 followers on the video sharing platform.
In the video, Becky explained that the “very specific strategy” she used to clear her debt in eight months is the “Bad Mom” method.
“Bad Mom” is an acronym, with each of the letters referring to a different aspect of her budgeting strategy.
Becky explained that the first letter, B, stands for “brainless budget”.
The mum revealed that she created her own budgeting system called the “Miracle Money Budget” where you put your numbers in and it does the budgeting for you, making it “brainless”.
Becky said that the A stands for “automated.”
She explained that this meant that she automated as much of her money saving strategy as she could so that she wouldn’t get “anxious” about it.
Finishing off the third word, Becky revealed that the D stands for “drastically cut expenses”.
She said that to do this, she uses the “onion” method, which involves dividing your life into different layers and then going through each layer individually to figure out where you can cut back on spending.
Becky said that the first letter of mom, M stands for “money mindset”.
She said: “I worked really hard at changing and fixing my money mindset”.
Becky now looks at spending in a completely different way than she used to.
The savvy mum said that the ‘O’ in her strategy stands for “one at a time”.
She explained that she didn’t try to get rid of all of her debts at once, but did things step by step.
Becky said: “If you try to do something all at once you’re going to get overwhelmed and you’re going to implode.
“It’s a marathon not a sprint”.
The final letter is Becky’s acronym, M, stands for “made more money”.
She said: “No matter what your circumstances are, in this day and age, you can make more money.”
In a previous video, Becky shared some of the things she does to save money.
She said that she never washes clothes after just one wash, will often buy her children second-hand gifts for Christmas and birthdays and never buys branded food items.
