K-State requires password resets for students, faculty

MANHATTAN (KSNT) - Kansas State University is enforcing a mandatory password reset in light of recent cybersecurity incident.

K-State announced it will be enforcing mandatory password reset. This comes after the university announced a cybersecurity incident disrupted some internet systems. This requirement is an abundance of caution to protect the universities program and people's information.

According to the K-State, all students, faculty and staff are now required to change their passwords in order to gain access to centralized IT services like Webmail, Canvas, HRIS and more. Users must change their passwords starting Tuesday, Jan. 23. Former eID passwords no longer work, according to the university.

We do anticipate some system outages that may appear as new issues to users, but we assure you much work is already underway to re-route any processes derived utilizing these departmentally owned or distributed systems into centrally owned systems. This is a necessary step forward in our ongoing efforts, and we appreciate your patience while we work through this transition.

According to K-State, the university doesn't anticipate students will experience any noticeable changes once they regain access. If faculty and staff notice an inability to access any systems, the university said those systems are not centrally managed and may not have been brought back after the reset. Those who experience this are asked to report outages to a supervisor, who then will report these outages to their dean or vice president, according to the university.
