Tokyo stocks end lower after Nikkei briefly hits 34-yr high
TOKYO, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Tuesday, after investors moved to lock in gains which erased earlier advances that had lifted the Nikkei index to a 34-year intraday high.
Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ended down 29.38 points, or 0.08 percent, from Monday at 36,517.57.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 2.85 points, or 0.11 percent,
