Gregg Wallace ignores troll backlash to car crash interview as he poses with fan at Six Nations match
GREGG Wallace ignored the recent backlash he faced over comments about his son as he attended a Six Nations match.
The MasterChef host, 59, came under fire after appearing to suggest he only spends 90 minutes a day playing with his non-verbal son Sid.
Gregg later responded to the barrage of furious comments, revealing he was labelled a “monster” by trolls.
But he put all of that to one side to attend a Six Nations game at Twickenham and happily posed with a fan.
The supporter’s dad posted the snap on social media and wrote: “Cheers to @GreggAWallace for having a pic with my son Max at Twickenham.”
Gregg made the controversial comments in a recent interview with The Telegraph, during which he was asked to describe his typical Saturday.
He listed things like breakfast and working out, but appeared to suggest he only spends 90 minutes with son Sid, four – who is autistic and non-verbal – before playing video games for hours.
Hitting back, Gregg told The Mirror: “And I’m also a little bit concerned about society at large right now where mass online bullying seems to be some sort of crazy spectator sport.
“You play with your son in the garden. You make dinner for your family and you’ve played on a computer game, but all of a sudden some people were calling me a monster. You’re taking the blocks of time out.”
He also addressed the abuse in an Instagram live, telling fans: “There are just two things I want to address here with Sid.
“People said ‘So you spend an an hour and a half with your son”, but then spend two hours on your computer’. No – I’m with my son in the house all the time.”
Gregg, who shares Sid with his fourth wife Anne-Marie Sterpini, was also forced to hit back at cruel claims he suggested his youngest son was unwanted.
He said: “The other thing as well – and I’m almost going to cry over this – people saying that Sid was unwanted. It took us two years to conceive with Sid. Two years.”
Last year Gregg spoke to The Sun about his and Anne-Marie’s fears for their son.
He said: “The biggest challenge is… they’re fears more than anything else. If he’s upset or he’s unwell, at the moment, he can’t tell us, and I’m not sure how he would communicate that to us.”
