Kieran Trippier shoots a warning to Tottenham and others after latest Newcastle win
Kieran Trippier has warned the likes of Tottenham Hotspur that Newcastle United are not going to give up on the race for the top four and will fight for every point until the very end of the season.
With 14 Premier League games left in the season, the top of the table is getting very crowded indeed, with plenty of sides now in a good run of form.
That is why Tottenham needed to overcome Brighton on Saturday, with a moment of quality from Son Heung-min off the bench ensuring that the Lilywhites remained right in the thick of it.
Ange Postecoglou’s men currently sit seven points behind league leaders Liverpool and the Australian made it clear last week that his side will have their eyes on the summit of the table until it is mathematically possible for them to win the league title (Football.London).
However, Spurs might also need to be wary of the chasing pack, with Manchester United registering their third league win in a row at Villa Park on Sunday to move to within six points of the North London side.
Newcastle are looking to climb up the Premier League table
Newcastle also registered an important 3-2 win at the City Ground over the weekend, a result which leaves the Magpies eleven points off fourth.
Trippier is convinced that there is all to play for in the race for Champions League qualification, insisting that there could be more twists and turns to come until May.
The Newcastle skipper said (via The Mirror): “There’s still a lot of points to play for and we’re not going to give up on the top four. Of course, we know it’s going to be difficult to close that gap, but in football, you never know – there’s going to be a lot of twists and turns from now to the end of the season.
“We go into every game with a mentality to win, and it’s going to be hard to finish in the top four because of the teams who are up there, but we’ve still got to play most of them and you never say never.”

The Premier League potentially looks set to be more closely contested at the top this season than it has been for many years. While Man City look clear favourites for the title, given the run they are currently on, it is anybody’s guess at the minute what the table will look like from second to eight.
