We Work On It – Everton Star Stresses Focus On Strong Point

Everton defender James Tarkowski has revealed that the Toffees work quite a bit on set-pieces, taking into account the fact that they are a big side and can create opportunities inside the box.

 

The Toffees have one of the tallest teams in the division with the likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure, Andre Gomes, Amadou Onana, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Tarkowski all standing at over six feet.

 

Given those statistics, the 31-year-old insists that set-pieces are one of their strong areas and are something they consistently work on.

 

 

 

“We work on it a fair bit”, Tarkowski told his club’s official website.

 

The aerial presence Everton’s players offer makes them a threat inside the opposition box, the veteran believes.

 

 

“We’re a big side, for one, so it’s always an opportunity when we get it into the box [from set pieces].”

 

On a personal level, Tarkowski revealed that his role is to read the flight of the incoming delivery, get into good areas and attack the ball.

 

 

“In terms of my role, I just try to read the flight of the ball.

 

“We’ve got lads who deliver the ball for us perfectly a lot of the time, so it’s just about getting yourself in good areas and attacking it.”

 

Tarkowski has featured in 25 league games for the Toffees so far this season, setting up two goals for his team-mates.

Following a ten-point deduction owing to a breach of sustainability rules, Sean Dyche’s side find themselves just above the drop zone with 20 points, leading Luton Town on goal difference.
