‘His value is dropping’ – Journalist claims Spurs target could cost just £30m in the summer

Journalist Dean Jones believes that Tottenham Hotspur could land Conor Gallagher for a cut-price fee of around £30m to £35m in the summer transfer window.

Many Spurs fans would have expected the club to test the waters with a move for Gallagher during the January window but an approach seemingly never came from the North London side.

It has been widely reported by various outlets (including Football Insider) over the last few weeks that Tottenham was put off by Chelsea’s high valuation of the 23-year-old last month.

It has been suggested that the Lilywhites could reignite their interest in the summer as the Blues would have to drop their valuation of the midfielder when he enters the final year of his contract in June.

Last week, The Daily Mail revealed that Chelsea are reluctant to offer the midfielder a new deal worth more than £150,000 per week.

The outlet also explained that Spurs would have an advantage over other suitors if the England international decided to leave his boyhood club in the summer as the player would prefer to remain in London.

Could Tottenham sign Conor Gallagher this summer?

Jones believes that Ange Postecoglou’s men are continuing to keep a close eye on the England international and that they would be willing to spend £35m to bring him across London when the transfer window reopens.

The journalist told GiveMeSport about Gallagher: “His value is dropping. You could say his realistic value in the market is around £30 million or £35 million at the moment, and I think Tottenham would be willing to pay that.

“They weren’t willing to go up to £50million in January. That’s why nothing ever came about, and I think that will remain the case. It’s an interesting one, but Tottenham definitely do hold a level of interest. They are just being a bit tentative at the moment about when they make their move.”

It is pointless to speculate over a summer move for Gallagher as a lot can change in the next few months. In fact, if the 23-year-old keeps performing as well as he is, the Stamford Bridge hierarchy would have no choice but to meet his salary demands to protect his market value.
