Charges filed in deadly Valentine's Day shooting

CLEVELAND COUNTY, Okla. (KFOR) - Charges have been filed against a man accused of shooting and killing his estranged wife's new boyfriend on Valentine's Day evening.

Officers were called to a home near Southeast 19th St. and South Bryant Ave. around 9 p.m. on Feb. 14.

When they arrived, they found 31-year-old Tevis Chess deceased with multiple gunshot wounds.

The woman inside the home told police her estranged husband, Bobby Oliver Jr., had forced his way inside the home and kicked in the bedroom door before shooting Chess.

She said Chess came to her home around 7 p.m. that evening and she received a call from Oliver a short time later.

As soon as she declined the call, her doorbell started ringing.

According to the affidavit, she went to the door and found Oliver, who began knocking on windows when the door was not opened.

The woman said she told Chess to go to the back bedroom and lock the door.

At that time, Oliver managed to enter the home through a kitchen window and ran to the bedroom before kicking the door open and firing several shots.

"When she arrived at the back bedroom, she observed Bobby standing over Tevis and kicking/stomping on his body," the affidavit reads. "Bobby then entered the children's bedroom; told them he loved them and exited the residence."

Oliver then left the scene, making his way to his father's home.

Authorities received a call from his father a short time later, who said Oliver was at his residence and had admitted to shooting someone.

“Once detectives made contact with the suspect at his family’s home in Norman, he did have a firearm on his person, but he surrendered without incident,” said Byley.

Oliver has now been charged with Murder in the First Degree and Burglary in the First Degree.

His bond has been set at $3.5 million and a bond condition to have no contact with the State’s witnesses. He remains in custody.

Oliver will be back in court for a Preliminary Hearing Conference on March 19 at 9 a.m.
