San Marcos gives preliminary OK to Buc-ee's location
SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) – The San Marcos area is closer to getting a Buc-ee’s.
The San Marcos City Council Tuesday evening approved the first reading of a proposal for incentives for the convenience store chain to open a 74,000-square-foot family travel center on the southbound frontage of Interstate 35 south of Yarrington Road.
The 22-acre site will include 120 gas pumps and will have capacity for between 100 and 175 electric vehicle charging spots, according to council documents.
Buc-ee’s would have to invest at least $50 million in the site and create 175 full-time jobs, with an average wage of $43,855 and benefits, although officials reported between 200 and 225 employees can be expected, according to our media partners at the Austin Business Journal.
ABJ also reports in addition to meeting job and investment totals, Buc-ee’s would be required to submit construction permits by June 1, start construction by March 31, 2025, and complete construction within 18 months, which is Oct. 1, 2026.
The council needs to approve the proposal at a second reading before it is adopted.
