Gary Neville has had series of meetings with Man United over major role following Ratcliffe announcement - report
Gary Neville has had a series of meetings with Manchester United chief operating officer about joining a special committee to oversee the regeneration of Old Trafford and the surrounding area, according to the Times.
The Red Devils invited their former star for the role given his criticism of the direction the club have gone under the Glazers.
Neville mocked Man United after discovering that the roof at Old Trafford was leaking after a game last October, and they could do with his input as they look to renovate their home ground.
The Sky Sports pundit owns Hotel Football and University Academy 92 close to the stadium, and while he is more than happy to give his time to a project that will benefit the area, he has no interest in any role that conflicts with his work for the broadcasting outfit.
Man United announced yesterday that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has finally completed the purchase of a minority stake in the club.
The INEOS owner wants to oversee major changes on and off the pitch upon the ratification of his mini takeover, and recruiting the services of Red Devils legend Neville will be huge.
Ratcliffe wants to make Man United a force to reckon with again, and refurbishing Old Trafford is part of his plans.
The British billionaire will commit £245 million to the club’s ageing infrastructure, and while it may not be enough to make their stadium and training facilities challenge what can be found at Real Madrid or Tottenham Hotspur, the multi-million investment will go a long way.
Man United are also hoping to reach an agreement with Newcastle United to get their former sporting director working for the Red Devils as soon as possible and ahead of the summer transfer window after he was placed on a 20-month gardening leave this week.
