DONNY Osmond is returning to the UK stage after selling 100 million records and slamming Lady Gaga.
The iconic US pop legend, 66, will star in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Edinburgh Playhouse this Christmas.
Having played the titular character in the musical’s U.S. and Canadian productions as well as the 1999 film, this time he will entertain the masses as Pharaoh.
With lyrics by Sir Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, tickets will go on general sale tomorrow at 10am.
The former child star said of his return to the show: “I always knew I would return to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
“Having starred as Joseph in over two thousand performances in this magical musical, I am now ready to channel my inner Elvis and assume the role of Pharaoh in Edinburgh starting this December.”
Donny’s six-decade-long career is full of dazzling highlights.
He shot to fame in 1963, performing with four of his elder brothers as The Osmonds before going solo.
Donny has sold over 100 million records, receiving 33 gold records and headlining a record-breaking Las Vegas residency.
In 2010, he upset Lady Gaga‘s fans after slamming her Telephone music video, featuring Beyonce.
The raunchy video was filmed in a women’s prison and saw Gaga kissing a female inmate before dancing in a bikini.
Religious Donny was left outraged and said at the time, “I’m all for freedom of speech and against any form of censorship, but all I know is that I’m a parent and I’m upset about this.
“I wouldn’t want my child to watch this video. Would you? What do you think?
“Should these two extremely gifted female role models for millions of young girls, maybe, have given a little more thought to the effect it might have on their core audience?
“Unlike 20 years ago, in today’s modern, viral world in which content becomes instantaneously available irrespective of age, I wonder whether the music industry might need to rethink its marketing policies with regard to making an explicit music video containing profanity, sexual exploitation, nudity, and graphic violence available to anyone with Internet access.”
