Lloris explains why he thinks Spurs will ‘become better with time’ under Postecoglou

Hugo Lloris has lavished praise on Ange Postecoglou for the way he transformed the side when he walked through the door in the summer, insisting that the team will only get bet as they get used to the Australian’s ethos.

Tottenham were evidently at a crossroads last summer when the Antonio Conte experiment blew up in their faces.

With the strategy of appointing ‘win-now’ managers failing, the club decided to go back to their roots, with Lloris explaining that Daniel Levy was clear at the time that a new direction was needed.

The former Tottenham captain told Sky Sports about the fresh approach that Postecoglou has brought: “Yes but that was the discussion with Daniel Levy at the end of last season, I could feel it was the end of a generation and that probably the club will need to go in a new direction.

“With freshness, with new and young players and with a different football approach and it’s working really well at the moment – I’m glad for the club.”

Lloris witnessed Postecoglou’s work from close quarters during the first half of the campaign and the 36-year-old revealed that he was not surprised by the impact that the former Celtic boss has had.

The Frenchman remarked: “Even if I wasn’t involved in the last six months at Spurs, it was really interesting to see the Ange Postecoglou approach to football.

“To be part of the meetings, every training session, to understand his demands… I’m not really surprised the way he has impacted the football style at Spurs and he can only become better with time.”

Lloris, who left Tottenham after 11 and a half years to move to Los Angeles FC last month, is convinced that this is an exciting time to be a Spurs fan and that good things are right around the corner for the club.

He added: “I think today being a Spurs fan is becoming really exciting and they are playing amazing football. Ange has made a huge impact in a short time, we all want to see what is the limit of this team.

“Success cannot be built in a few months or a year but they are going in the right direction. Especially after the last few seasons – we had some ups and downs – but we were not playing the football the fans expected and right now the football is back, so let’s see where it’s going to bring the club.”
