ARE you an app hoarder? Well, that practice is eating up your storage – but perhaps not in the way you think.
Of course apps rinse your storage space, especially heavy-duty social media platforms.
But apps on your iPhone or Android can also save temporary files like search history, user settings, or recently viewed pages.
This is known as cached data – and its the same cache that you’re encouraged to clear on your laptop or PC from time-to-time.
People often overlook that their phones, too, can keep hold of this cache data.
And clearing it can help free some storage space on your phone.
Unfortunately, there is ‘erase all’ button for deleting the cached data from your iPhone or Android.
How to clear cache on iPhone
Instead, iPhone users must go to into their Settings and scroll down to the list of apps installed on their phone.
From there, you can tap on individual apps to see if they have a clear cache option.
To clear the cache from Safari, simply follow these steps: Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data, select a timeframe, and tap Clear history.
How to clear cache on Android
Clearing the cache of most Android phones is very similar to that of an iPhone.
All Android owners need to do is go into Settings and scroll down to the Apps section.
Then tap on the individual app to find the platform’s info.
From there, click Storage > Clear cache.
However, some Android phones have a real-life ‘magic button’ that clears the cached data from all apps.
You can find that by heading to Settings > Storage and tapping Cached data.
