Brianna Ghey’s mum meets the family of the girl who murdered her daughter

Esther Ghey has met with Scarlett Jenkinson’s mum and uncle to work together on a community project for peace in Brianna’s memory.

Her teen daughter Brianna was lured to Culcheth Linear Park near Warrington on February 11, 2023, and stabbed more than 28 times by people she thought were friends.

Her killers were named as Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe as they were jailed for life. 

Scarlett’s family have previously spoken out, saying the year since the barbaric killing was ‘beyond our worst nightmares’.

Scarlett Jenkinson, who was just 15 at the time, ‘enjoyed’ the killing and found the thought of inflicting violence ‘sexually arousing’, her trial at Manchester crown court heard.

She was given a life term and ordered to serve a minimum term of 22 years. Her accomplice Eddie Ratcliffe, also 16, was locked up for at least 20 years.

This week, Esther Ghey met with the mother and uncle of Scarlett Jenkinson in Warrington, their home town. 

The families discussed the ‘Peace in Mind’ campaign, and the ways they could work together. 

Scarlett’s mum, a former teacher, was ‘really interested’ in the two Peace in Mind campaigns that are striving for mindfulness training in schools and better child safeguarding for social media and mobile phones.

Esther said: ‘The tragedy last year has affected so many, and changed so many lives.

‘We lost our beautiful Brianna, but Scarlett’s family’s lives have been changed forever too.

‘I wanted to sit down with Scarlett’s family to find out how the last year had affected them.

‘It was a positive and respectful meeting which allowed us to initially get to know each other.’
