I let my son stay up until 4am playing on his Xbox – people judge me but if it makes me a bad mum then so be it
A WOMAN has revealed that she let her son stay up until 4am playing games on his Xbox – and isn’t bothered by what other people might think.
The mother explained that she was waiting for her son’s Xbox game Fortnite to update, but the survival battle game didn’t load up until 3am.
Despite the late hour, Lynn Mitchell, who is from the UK, explained that she didn’t want the ‘bedtime’ argument, so instead, let her son play on his game until 4am.
The mother opened up about the situation on social media – leaving parents totally divided.
Lynn posted on Family Lowdown Tips & Ideas, a private Facebook group with a staggering 1.2 million members, as she initially questioned: “What’s happening with Fortnite now?!? I don’t think I can cope if it’s not ready. Exasperated mum, UK.”
But Lynn later added: “Who would have thought that people can be so judgemental.
“As the mother I allowed my son to stay up for however long he wanted.
“It was my choice. It was the easy option and after a hard week at school and work I didn’t want the argument at ‘bedtime’.
“His Xbox finally updated at 3am and he ended up in bed at 4am and was up again at 8am.”
The parent then expressed: “If this makes me a bad mum then so be it.”
Lynn shared her post just two days ago, but it has quickly racked up a whopping 291 comments, as parents took to the comments to share their thoughts.
But social media users were left totally divided by the post – while some called the game ‘toxic’ and told Lynn to do something ‘constructive’ with her kids, others admitted that they didn’t see a problem with it.
One person said: “It’s not about you being a bad mum! Sometimes we don’t realise how damaging our actions can be for kids, it’s lack of awareness, we all learn at some point..
“But if a child is soooo addicted to Fortnite and stays up till 3am, I worry how much stress and anxiety he must have had waiting and waiting for “Fortnite” to work.”

The parent even went as far to claim: “These addictions are almost like drug addictions or gambling addictions!!”
Another added: “I’m so glad I never allowed this game. Sod that s**t. Toxic.”
A third commented: “Do something constructive with your kids instead.”
Meanwhile, one parent was eager to support Lynn, as she claimed: “If you’re a bad mum then I am in bad mum solidarity with you, whilst my kids play Fortnite.
“No judgement here. I salute all parents and guardians, especially those that don’t feel the need to slam a fellow parent on Facebook.”
