A wet and breezy start to the week around Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Rainy and breezy conditions --- that's what Monday's forecast has in store for us. And with that, soaking rain is expected in our afternoon and early evening hours across the Portland metro area.
Afternoon highs will only make it into the low 50s through the start of our new week. Monday afternoon wind gusts could also get up to 30+ mph out of the south.
Snow elevations will hover around 3,500 to 4,500 feet. There is a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until the evening Tuesday up and down the South Washington Cascades and the North Oregon Cascades. One to two feet of new snow accumulation is possible in the North Oregon Cascades above 3,500 feet.
And while more mountain snow is on the way, our valley rain accumulation will be around an inch from Sunday night into late Tuesday. Coastal locations could reach 1.5 inches to nearly 2 inches by Tuesday night.
Monday's evening commute could be a really wet one with widespread steady rain expected around 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Warmer Temps are on the way
But then.... are you ready for 70-degrees? Drier skies and much warmer temps prevail late in the week with a ridge of high pressure building over the PNW come Thursday. By Friday, we could see our first 70-degree day of the year.
Mainly dry conditions also look to stick around through the weekend into next week.
Thus, keep your rain gear handy to start the week, but then make sure to dust off your sunglasses for later in the week!! Or as my younger sister says --- grab your sunnies!
