Mom accused in baby's death appears in court
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Persia Nelson, 24, of Schenectady, appeared in court Monday morning. She is accused of second-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of her child, 10-month-old Halo R. Branton. According to court documents, Nelson allegedly dropped her baby down an approximate 10-foot-deep pipe located at the General Electric Main Plant.
These court documents also state that the access area had water and mud located at the base of the pipe which allegedly caused the death of Halo. Stick with NEWS10 as more information becomes available.
Halo was reported missing Sunday morning in Schenectady prompting an AMBER Alert to be issued. The AMBER Alert was canceled around 1 p.m. Sunday after police said they found Halo unresponsive and transported her to the hospital. She was later pronounced dead.
