Virginia man killed in crash on I-70 west of Salina
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - A fatal crash closed Interstate 70, about 12 miles west of Salina, early Monday. As of 7:30 a.m., the highway was reopened.
Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Ben Gardner said the crash happened before midnight between U.S. Highway 81 and Lincoln-Saline County line.
Gardner shared a photo of the scene showing a semi on the side of the road.
According to the KHP, a car was headed east on I-70 around 11:40 p.m. Sunday when it crossed the center median and hit the westbound semi.
The driver of the car, Michael Fussell, 42, of Roanoke, Virginia, died at the scene.
A 33-year-old man from Chicago was driving the semi. His passenger was a 28-year-old from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They were taken to the hospital in Salina to be checked for minor injuries.
