Kyle Pitts responded to the Falcons' signing of Kirk Cousins by seemingly offering up his jersey number
Ever since the Atlanta Falcons used the fourth-overall pick in 2021 on tight end Kyle Pitts, the Florida product has dealt with maddening usage due to poor coaching and quarterback play.
Well, it’s safe to say that he approves of the Falcons’ latest addition.
The Falcons reached a four-year deal with former Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins on Monday, bringing a legitimate QB to an offense that desperately needed one. Pitts — whose lone 1,000-yard season was his rookie year with Matt Ryan — had quite the response on Twitter/X to the news.
Pitts seemingly offered up his No. 8 jersey number to Cousins — who has worn No. 8 for most of his NFL career — by tweeting a photo of himself in his No. 84 jersey at Florida. The number was worn by former Falcons star receiver Roddy White, but the team doesn’t officially retire jersey numbers.
Typically, players will pay for a teammate’s jersey number or offer some kind of gift if they’re really passionate about a particular number. But for Pitts to just offer to change right away? It was a cool gesture, and NFL fans knew exactly what the tweet meant.
