Bus Stop Club surprises Schalmont student with bedroom makeover
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Schalmont student received the surprise of a lifetime on Wednesday. Shaeli Gravell got a brand new bedroom makeover and trip to the American Dream Mall thanks to the Bus Stop Club.
The program provides support for kids who have siblings with critical illnesses or disabilities. Shaeli was given the Sibling Star Award, and the group wanted to give her a moment in the spotlight and to recognize her for her strength and selflessness.
"Shaeli has been with us since she was five. She's 13 now, and every time we have a new member, we call on her and say, 'Hey, we have a new member,'" Bus Stop Club Exec. Dir. Angela Tobin said. "She makes them feel very comfortable and befriends them right away."
"I always wanted to go to the American Dream Mall for a long time because we go to New Jersey and Philadelphia for the hospital there for my sister, and we always pass by it and it looks really cool, and I'm excited to go," Shaeli said.
Her room makeover was provided by Old Brick Furniture, and the trip to American Dream comes courtesy of Yankee Trails. Shaeli will also be a guest at the annual Bus Stop Club Gala, which raises money for the program.
