ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- In the Village of Parks, the water system is at the forefront of discussion.

News 10 spoke to Mayor Kevin Kately who says Parks is in the process of constructing a new well to help with water supply.

"We have four wells right now, but one of the pluses that we're looking at is putting a big well to where we'll have two big ones and three smaller ones," said Kately.

Some residents have experienced discoloration of their water, and low water pressure. Kately says the problems will be eliminated with the new well.

"One of the things that's gonna be a big benefit is not having possibly running out of water in any given time. If something happens to our plant we could still furnish the people water," Kately explained.

Kately says the installation of the well will allow more residents to settle in Parks in the future.

"Once we put this new well I think we can definitely add more customers but at the same time, we've got to make sure that we're giving them quality water as best as we can," said Kately.

Kately asks residents to be patient as they complete the project.

"This administration and council been working hard in trying to improve, bare with us, work with us, every day we're working hard to improve this water system," said Kately.

Construction on the new well will be completed at the end of 2024.
