Boy, 16, found dead after tipper truck goes into river
A 16-year-old boy has died after a ‘tragic accident’ saw a tipper truck fall into a river.
Llyr Davies, a ‘loveable boy’ described as a talented sportsman, was thought to have been inside the vehicle when it entered the Cleddau River in Pembrokeshire, near the former Gilfach Quarry in the Efailwen area of Clynderwen yesterday.
Police are investigating the scene, along with the Health and Safety Executive.
Llyr’s rugby team and former football team have since paid tribute to the teen as they offered support for friends affected by the tragedy.
Cardigan Town FC said: ‘Tragic news that one of our past junior players, Llyr Davies, died in an accident yesterday. As a club we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
‘For all those friends reading this, grief can be overwhelming. You don’t have to deal with this alone.’
His rugby team, Clwb Rygbi Castell Newydd Emlyn, said: ‘Very sad news yesterday that one of our U16 players lost his life in a tragic accident.
‘Llyr Davies was a lovable boy and a friend to everyone. The club extends its deepest sympathies to the family and all his friends.’
Another friend said: ‘It was an absolute privilege knowing you and it always will be. Be safe up there love.
‘You was too young, you was so ambitious and had an amazing future ahead of you. Don’t get into too much trouble.’
A spokesperson for Mid & West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘The Crymych, Whitland, Narberth, Fishguard and Haverfordwest crews were called to an incident in Efailwen, Clunderwen.
‘Crews responded to one dumper truck located in a shallow river and a casualty in a separate location to the dumper truck. Crew members assisted paramedics to administer CPR to the casualty.
‘Police have confirmed that the casualty sadly died at the scene.’
