‘It’s an outrage!’ fume Coronation Street fans as Simon Barlow finally sentenced after horror crash
CORONATION Street fans were left livid and enraged as they finally saw Simon Barlow face up to his drink-drive smash in court.
Simon finally had his day in the dock after causing a booze-fuelled smash whilst driving his half-brother Sam to a hugely important chess tournament.
The wayward Barlow boy had spent the evening before the crash downing drinks with his pals and was still intoxicated when he awoke after indulging in another drink.
He ended up ploughing Leanne’s car into a road sign before fleeing the scene knowing that he would fail a breathalyser test.
Simon poured his heart out to mum Leanne about the crash and also revealed his fears that he may be struggling with alcoholism and she soon agreed to keep the real events of the crash covered up.
However, Leanne soon came clean to hubby Nick when Sam took a turn for the worst and ended up in hospital with a concussion.
Ever since, Nick and Leanne’s marriage has appeared to be under strain with Nick seemingly resenting Leanne and Simon for covering up the events of the accident.
With weeks having passed, Simon was finally forced to face up to what he had done and headed to court.
Ultimately, he was slapped with a driving ban for six months as well as given 80 hours of community service to be completed.
Despite, Simon taking the punishment well and enrolling himself in self-help classes, enraged fans could not help but take issue with the punishment as they demanded that he be slapped with a far harsher sentence.
With actor Alex Bain having quit the soap for good, some ITV viewers had been expecting to see him placed behind bars.
Reacting to the scene, one fan said: “Simon got off lightly there. How is he going to exit then?”
Another furiously seethed: “Throw him in jail forever.”
A third went on to add: “Simon got a driving ban? Is that it?!?”
Whilst a fourth barked: “It’s an outrage!”
