Jim Jordan threatens Alejandro Mayorkas with subpoena over killing of Laken Riley: report

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has been threatened with a subpoena from House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, who accuses Mayorkas of withholding information about the migrant who allegedly killed 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley.

In a letter sent this Thursday, Jordan accuses Mayorkas of ignoring a February 27 request for the immigration history of suspect Jose Ibarra — who four days later allegedly bludgeoned Riley with a blunt object, disfiguring her skull, The New York Post reported.

Ibarra, who is accused of attacking Riley while she was out for a jog, has been charged with felony murder, malice murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault and aggravated battery.

“DHS’s failure to produce the requested information prevents the Committee from fulfilling its constitutional oversight obligations," Jordan's letter read. “Accordingly, we write to reiterate our outstanding requests in our February 27, 2024, letter, which is attached for your convenience."

“Please provide this information as soon as possible, but no later than 5:00 p.m. on March 28, 2024. Please be advised that the Committee will use compulsory process if these requests remain outstanding," the letter continued.

According to reports, Ibarra is a member of the Venezuelan organized crime group "Tren de Aragua."

As CNN points out, he was first arrested for illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border in September of 2022, but was then released into the U.S. on parole after just 24 hours in custody and was given "free rein" in the U.S. until October of this year.

Tren de Aragua is the largest criminal group in Venezuela and has more than 5,000 members. The group has cells throughout Central and South America and plays a large role in human trafficking throughout the region. The group also has cells set up in the U.S.
