IPL 2024: BCCI Considers Relocating Second Leg of IPL 2024 to UAE Due to Overlapping with Lok Sabha Elections
The Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024 is scheduled to start in Bengaluru on March 22. The home club Royal Challengers Bangalore will play the opening match of the season versus the reigning champion Chennai Super Kings. The Election Commission of India has not yet released the calendar for the 2024 Lok Sabha Election, hence the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not disclosed the full timetable for the competition. Additionally, despite IPL chairman Arun Dhumal’s assurance that the entire 2024 competition will take place in India, a source claims that BCCI authorities are already considering holding the league’s second season in the United Arab Emirates.
“On Saturday at 3 p.m., the Indian Election Commission will declare the election timetable. The BCCI will next determine whether or not to shift the IPL matches to Dubai. A few senior BCCI executives are currently in Dubai investigating the prospect of holding the IPL’s second half there, sources told Times of India.
The Chief Election Commissioner revealed the dates of the 2024 Lok Sabha election on Saturday, stating that it will take place in seven stages beginning on April 19. Polling in phases will take place on April 19 for phase 1, April 26 for phase 2, May 7 for phase 3, May 13 for phase 4, May 20 for phase 5, May 25 for phase 6, and June 1 for phase 7. On June 4, there will be a count.
Owing to scheduling conflicts with the general election, the IPL will be conducted overseas once more. Due to the corresponding general elections, the first 20 games of the 2014 IPL tournament were staged in the United Arab Emirates in 2014, whereas the full 2009 season was conducted outside of India (South Africa). Nevertheless, despite the elections, the entire event in 2019 took place in India.
The BCCI has released the schedule for the first 21 matches of the IPL 2024 competition. These matches will take place between April 7 and Match 22, with the final match pitting the Gujarat Titans against the Lucknow Super Giants, the reigning champions. Four double headers, two of which are on the opening weekend, are also included in the partial schedule.
RCB, Titans and Delhi Capitals are slated to play five matches in the first half of the tournament, while Kolkata Knight Riders will play only three games. Each of the remaining teams will play four games. Delhi will play all their home games in Visakhapatnam. They will be the only franchise who won’t play any of their matches at their home ground
