NYRA discusses preparations for Belmont Stakes
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Preparations are ramping up for Belmont Stakes Weekend at the Saratoga Race Course, which is less than three months away. Officials with the New York Racing Association are confident they can handle it but acknowledge there are some changes in how they get the track ready.
The Belmont is being held about a month before the start of the summer meet, and the entire racing world will be watching. NYRA said there are some added costs but said they are excited to keep the race in New York.
"Having Saratoga increases our ability for continuity as we rebuild Belmont," NYRA Pres. and CEO David O'Rourke said. "So it's key. It's key to the whole racing ecosystem that we're trying to keep together during these two years."
The Belmont will also be held at Saratoga Race Course in 2025 as Belmont Park undergoes renovations.
