Mumbai: Former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma did not attend the practice session on Wednesday and opted to remain in the hotel itself which raised a lot of speculation. So what is the problem and why has Rohit opted to skip the training session? The Mumbai Indians franchise finally issued a clarification on this on Wednesday evening. The statement reveals that Rohit is under a customised regime that includes simulated net sessions, mobility and strength and conditioning sessions.
“Rohit Sharma who joined the squad on Monday, is on a customized training program that involves simulated net sessions, mobility and strength and conditioning sessions, for the past three days, hence stayed back in Mumbai to focus on his pre-season program,” read the statement.
“Rohit did not take part in the practice game held today (on Wednesday),” it added.
So, will Rohit miss the first game against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday? We assume he is available as there is nothing on that.
Rohit, who is the premier batter of the side, will be the key to MI’s fortunes at the top of the order. Rohit will in all probability open with Ishan Kishan.
