Authorities say partially dismembered human remains found in 1979 in a Chicago suburb have been identified through DNA and forensic genealogy. Barrington Hills police say the remains are those of Joseph A. Caliva, who was 27 when he vanished. Authorities couldn't identify the man's decapitated, burned and arm-less remains after they were found in August 1979 in the Chicago-area village. But Barrington Hills police sent genetic material last year to Othram, a Texas-based genetic genealogy company that specializes in forensic DNA work. WGN-TV reports that after the company identified relatives of the man, a woman submitted her DNA to Othram, which identified Caliva as her half-brother.
