Chennai: MS Dhoni dropped a bombshell on Thursday afternoon to stump one and all ahead of the much-awaited IPL 2024 opener between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Dhoni, who has led CSK since it’s inception, stepped down as the captain of the side. While this stunned all, even the ones close to him did not know about his plans. As expected, Ruturaj Gaikwad was appointed as the new captain of the side.

Now, there are fresh speculations over will Dhoni hang up his boots tonight itself. While nothing can be confirmed, it is possible and knowing Dhoni, one will not count it out.

Last year, after CSK won the title, Dhoni confirmed that he would play his last match at the Chepauk and then sign off. One feels, it could happen today as CSK is not playing a lot of matches at this venue this year because of the general elections.

Meanwhile, ahead of the IPL 2024 opener, Virat Kohli admitted that playing in Chennai is special and it is always a big game. Kohli also revealed that it has been a while since he met MS Dhoni, so this is a good opportunity to catch up with him.

“Playing against Chennai is always a special occasion, a big game. The Southern Derby as they call it. It would be nice to play in front of passionate Chennai fans. Good to catch up with MS, it’s been a while,” Kohli said in a clip posted on RCB social media handle.
