My classic car was refused by a petrol station because of a little-known rule – there was nothing I could do
A FUMING motorist has revealed being told he could not fill up his classic car at a petrol station because of a little-known rule.
Classic car driver Geoff said he had to “take his business” elsewhere after being refused by the service provider.
Posting on his Youtube channel Geoff Buys Cars, he explained to his audience that he tried to fill up his tank earlier in the day and was refused by a petrol station.
Geoff has an old car – a Renault 10 – and to fill it up he needs to keep his boot open as that’s where the petrol is fed into the engine.
After noticing his pump was not authorised, he popped into the garage to see why, and couldn’t believe the sharp response he was given – with very little explanation.
He said: “I’ve just been to put some petrol in my Renault 10, and I’ll show you where the fuel filler is.
“They would not authorise the pump because I wouldn’t close the boot, and I can’t close the boot because the filler-neck is in the boot.”
He went on to claim that “many classic” cars have the exact same filler-neck.
He then shows the clip where he was refused, stating they had “embarrassed him” in front of other customers.
In the video he shot of the interaction, he waits for staff to notice him before asking why he wasn’t allowed to juice his motor.
The staff member said she could not authorise the pump because he has the boot open and so they’re “not allowed” to authorise it the sale.
She said: “It’s one of our policies.”
And as she said it, the station’s manager said that it was “regarding health and safety.”
The staff member went on to explain that she “knows” it’s not Geoff’s fault but they’re “just doing” their job by refusing him.
In the video the staff member did not give an explanation about how exactly it could cause health and safety problems, but stood firm on the rule before claiming it might not be the same for all petrol stations.
PETROL PROBLEMS

Disgruntled customers have reported their engines cutting out and not restarting after stopping by at the fuel station.
And finally, consumer experts sent out a warning and provided helpful tips to drivers who were charged ‘crazy’ amounts for filling up at petrol stations.
Some motorists claim it’s taken days to be reimbursed following the changes made by card companies.
