ONE beauty lover learned the hard way that sometimes getting your eyebrows waxed needs to come with a warning label.
It seemed that you needed to be careful when using one skincare staple in particular to avoid an eyebrow-raising disaster.
Abbie O’Connor (@abbieoc05) acknowledged that she had indeed “learned a very important lesson” after what had happened at her brow appointment.
While she was pleased with how “great” her wavy blonde locks, lashes, and eyebrows looked, there was one little – or rather big – brow-related problem.
And it certainly wasn’t hard to see just what the issue was.
Under both of her eyebrows were large red patches – and she already knew who – or what – was to blame.
Getting your brows waxed while on acne medication was one sure way to be left with a very unpleasant parting gift.
She was indeed left red in the face – literally – but she could only laugh at the situation she had found herself in.
Abbie realized that the root of her very noticeable problem was the acne medication tretinoin.
Used to treat pimples as well as other skincare conditions, the Mayo Clinic explains that tretinoin works to keep the skin’s pores clear.
It is also used to help with wrinkles, dark spots, and even rough patches of skin.
The ingredient, which can be found in a gel or cream form, lightens the skin, replaces older skin with newer skin, and slows down the way the body removes skin cells that may have been harmed by the sun.
They also warn against using the product on windburned or sunburned skin or on open wounds.
During the first three weeks of use, the skin might become more irritated than usual – meaning it is also best not to get waxed.
While using tretinoin, one should stay away from any hair removal products or services, as well as any other items that might cause sensitivity to the skin.
This includes products containing spices or limes, as well as shaving creams, some lotions, and astringents.
Certain drying cosmetics and soaps should also be avoided.
Her fans were also weighing in on the unfortunate situation.
“Girl, your technician is supposed to confirm you’re not on any of those medications before every service,” said one follower.
Others even had their own advice for the traumatized acne user.
“Not sure what medication caused this, but this happened to me with tretinoin. I still use it, but I stop using it about five to seven days before my wax and it is fine!” said one viewer.
