You asked for it: Even more South Florida pizza places where you can get a single slice
It’s hard to find a single slice of pizza these days. Many restaurants want us to buy a whole pie or do without.
But South Florida still has enough single-slice joints to keep lone pizza lovers satisfied. After the Sun Sentinel printed a list of pizzerias that still sell slices, readers pointed out there were even more than those we originally compiled.
So here are additional sites, in Broward and Palm Beach counties, where you can get a single piece at a decent price. It’s reassuring to know we can still go out and eat this classic comfort food, New York-, Sicilian- or Detroit-style, without having to splurge on a whole pie that serves eight.
BROWARD COUNTY

A slice goes for $4, plus 50 cents or 75 cents extra for toppings. Reader Larry Kerman of Hillsboro Beach recommended Bob’s slices for their old-school simplicity: “I grew up in Brooklyn and love traditional New York City thin slices, usually with just plain cheese. A really good cheese slice doesn’t need anything else. Needs to be a little oily, and most importantly the crust needs to be able to be folded in half without the tip of the slice flopping down.”

Two slices and a soda will set you back $7. There’s also a $9.95 special that includes a slice, salad, soup and soda. Bruce Berger of Tamarac said he’s a regular patron: “Mannino’s is like a New York pizzeria — enter the restaurant, go to the counter and order slices. They have a couple of tables where you can sit to eat your pizza; you don’t have to sit in the restaurant side of the facility (although you could and order slices from there). The slices are simple and well-prepared — cheese, sauce and crust, baked perfectly. What more do you need?”

This kosher eatery offers a $4.69 “Big Slice” and a $4.99 Sicilian slice, with additional charges for toppings and extra cheese. According to Joel Katz of Hollywood: “They sell by the slice and various sizes of pies, which makes it convenient if you just want to swing by for one or two slices. They even double-cut the slices when asked.”

A slice is $3, and you can supplement your pizza lunch with a fried calamari appetizer ($10.95) or chicken wings ($8.95). There’s also a large selection of hot and cold heroes, specialty pizzas, soups, salads, calzones, pastas and dinner entrees.
PALM BEACH COUNTY

Slices cost $4.99; a large assortment of pies range in price from $12.75 to $21.50. There are also soups, salads, pastas, sandwiches, calzones and strombolis.

A regular slice costs $3.35; a Sicilian slice is $3.85. There’s also the Famous Grandma Pizza Slice, which has a thin Sicilian crust brushed with olive oil and garlic, mozzarella, and chunky San Marzano tomato sauce (also $3.85). Make sure to check out the single-slice specials, where you can get two slices and a soda for $7.75 or $8.75, depending on the kind of pizza.
MULTIPLE LOCATIONS

A plain slice is $3, but you can get almost any kind of slice from their large assortment of pies, including Chicken Parmigiana, Lasagna, Mexican or Hawaiian ($3.50 to $4.25). The menu also offers pastas, hot and cold subs, salads and chicken and veal entrees.

A plain or pepperoni slice is $2.75; a two-slice and drink combo is $7. Jet’s is a chain that began in 1978 and is known for its Detroit-style pizza, which has a thick, crunchy crust that is soft on the inside. According to Casey Kolp, owner of the Boca Raton and Royal Palm Beach shops: “We make our own dough fresh every morning and use only the finest Grande cheese without additives or fillers.”
