‘It’s smooth, quite quick & silent’ – car expert urges drivers to pick up EV that’s ‘perfect for the city’ at just £4k
AN expert has urged drivers to pick a “smooth, quite, quick and silent” EV that’s “perfect for the city” and costs just £4,000.
Matt Goodwin from YouTube channel High Peak Autos snapped up a 2016 Nissan Leaf for just £4,000.
Matt said the electric vehicle represents very good value thanks to its performance.
When Matt puts his foot down , he likes the response from the Leaf. He said: “Shall we sting it? Wow, that’s surprised me actually, it’s genuinely quite quick.
“I could be wrong, but I remember that when these came out the 0-30mph time or 0-35mph time was quicker than a [BMW] M5.
“Obviously, I’d still rather have an M5 but it’s nice to have a bit of power.”
Matt also praised the Leaf’s “smooth” ride experience. He said: “It’s very smooth, quite quick, silent. There’s quite a bit going for it, apart from its range because I stung it.
“It’s kind of making me eat my words because it’s alright. I know it’s not the prettiest but as a little town car, it wouldn’t be the end of the world.”
Matt also urged drivers to ask the Nissan dealer if the Leaf’s battery was bought or leased.
He said: “With the battery leased cars, yes it was quite expensive, sometimes you’d pay £100 per month for that battery.
“But, if the battery ever broke or the range became poor, they would replace it free of charge.”
Nissan only recently confirmed that it’s stopped making its Leaf electric car in Sunderland saying the Leaf had “reached the end of its lifecycle in Europe.”
It marks the end of a 13-year era for Leaf, which is one of the most affordable family-size electric cars on the market today with pricing starting at £28,495.
The Japanese brand is now putting the wheels in motion for the Leaf’s electric replacement which is due to be rolled out in 2026.
This will be part of a new £2billion investment in EV production at the Sunderland factory.
A brand spokesperson told The Daily Mail: “The Leaf has long inspired a loyal following from owners, who highly praise the car’s reliability and ease of ownership.
“After 13 years of great success, the Nissan Leaf, the world’s first mass-market 100 per cent electric vehicle, is approaching the end of its life cycle in Europe.”
Parent company BMW confirmed the news with a statement bidding farewell to the model as well as taking a look forward to the exciting projects yet to come.
