Thunderstorms possible for some around Portland area Wednesday

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Oregon and Washington's latest spring storm will bring wind and rain back to the region, but also the threat of isolated thunderstorms.

Spring-like temperatures will remain around the Portland area Wednesday with highs climbing into the mid-50s. Persistent rain will start the day, but as skies slowly clear, the thunderstorm threat then increases.

Thunderstorm outlook Wednesday

Thunderstorms will be isolated in nature Wednesday from the coast to the Willamette Valley. The chance doesn't ramp up until the afternoon and evening hours. Lightning, small hail, gusty winds and heavy rains are the biggest concerns around Portland on Wednesday.

The thunderstorm potential decreases around sunset. That's when the lack of afternoon warmth will fade and thunderstorm threat will do the same.

Rain forecast around Portland

Heavy and persistent rain showers will start before sunrise along the Willamette Valley. Rain accumulation will be near almost three-quarters of an inch throughout the day Wednesday. Widespread rain will slowly start to clear during the afternoon hours.

Rain accumulation will continue during the afternoon and evening hours, but accumulation will be isolated. Some minor urban flooding is possible during moments of heavy rain.

Gust winds expected with latest spring storm

Strong and gusty winds will arrive as rain showers start to fall Wednesday. Some gusts will be near 25-30 mph during the storm event.

Some gusty conditions are possible with stronger evening storms. The winds will be out of the south, helping to warm temperatures as the week continues.

Drier skies are expected along with sunshine and highs in the mid-60s by this weekend. Easter weekend will be dry and sunny around Portland. Temperatures will be warm, but not record-breaking over the weekend.
