Women's Health Wednesday: Nutrition Month
ALBANY, N.Y. (WTEN) - March is National Nutrition Month. According to the Office on Women's Health, studies show that when a woman eats healthy, everyone in her household is more likely to eat healthy.
This means choosing foods that improve a person's overall health and help prevent disease.
The main idea of National Nutrition Month is to establish a standard needed for people to meet their nutritional needs through food. In this week's Women's Health Wednesday we're talking about the best ways to snack and eat healthy meals throughout the day.
Jamie Martin is a Registered Dietitian with Hudson Headwaters Health Network. She shares some great tips on healthy snacking not just for women, but for parents and kids who are often eating on-the-go.
Tips for eating healthy, balanced snacks:
- protein (peanut butter, hard boiled egg, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, low fat cheese)
- healthy fat (nuts, seeds, guacamole)
- carbohydrate (whole grain crackers, pretzels, popcorn, dry cheerios)
- fruit or vegetable
