Sunny, warm Easter expected around Portland: How it compares to years past
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Easter weekend is quickly approaching and so too are the warmer, sunnier and drier weather conditions for the greater Portland-Vancouver metro area.
Direr weather is expected to start working its way into the Pacific Northwest by Friday. Even more sunshine and highs returning to the mid-60s are possible by Saturday. This mild, sunny and warmer weather trend is expected to last through the holiday weekend.
Despite spring-like temperatures returning, no records are expected to be broken this Easter Sunday. The current record for March 31 is 77°F last set in 2013 which was also an Easter Sunday. While no records are expected to be broken this year, Easter doesn't always fall on the same day. That change in date means that Portland's seen some temperature differences on this holy holiday.
Over the last 10 years, Portland's average daytime high temperature on Easter is 67°F. The outlier from this was in 2013.
Despite last year's high of nearly 60°F, snow was in the forecast for the Portland-Vancouver metro area just four days prior. Easter fell on April 9 last year. So, it's still a possibility to get those snow scares in the city that early in the spring season.
The days leading up to this year's Easter celebrations are the chance for spring thunderstorms and wet weather. The threat of rain quickly fades as the holiday weekend approaches to make for a sunny and mild Easter Sunday this year.
