High school sports roundup (March 27)

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Wednesday, March 27.

Boys lacrosse

Broadneck 16, Langley (Va.) 7: The Bruins (2-0) beat the Saxons (2-3) at West Potomac in Alexandria, Va. in the Maryland-Virginia Challenge. Broadneck was led by Tanner Boone (3 goals, 4 assists), Logan McGill (3 goals, 2 assists) and Braden McCassie (3 goals, 1 assist).

Archbishop Spalding 18, Everest Academy (Michigan) 10: The host Cavaliers (5-2) beat the Mountaineers (3-2). Spalding was led by Ethan Ostrowski (4 goals) and Brady Mollot (4 assists). The victory was the third straight.

Malvern Prep (Pa.) 8, Boys’ Latin 7: Liam White scored his second goal to give the host Lakers (4-1) a 7-6 lead with 8:45 left to play. The Friars (5-0) scored the last two goals and won. Matthew Higgins scored twice for Boys’ Latin.

McDonogh 12, Chaminade (N.Y.) 10: The visiting Eagles (4-1) opened with a 6-0 run and beat the Flyers (1-1). Brendan Millon scored four goals for McDonogh. The Eagles got two goals from Bogue Hahn, Hunter Metz, and Luke Miller. McDonogh will host St. Paul’s on Tuesday.

Girls lacrosse

South River 20, Bel Air 9: Alex Alto led the host Seahawks (3-0) over the Bobcats at their Spring Break tournament. South River got three goals and two assists from Anna Burke, Reese Toth and Kelly Webber. Paige Feick had a hat trick and Darby Doehring netted two goals for the Bobcats.

Bel Air 17, Northern 16: In the Bobcat’s second game at the South River mixer, the team got six goals from Riley Manzo and five from Paige Feick to pick up the win. Feick also handed out three assists. Mia Jourdan finished with two goals and two assists, while Delaney Burrows added a goal and two assists. Ashley Yingling, Darby Doehring and Kayla Foughty also scored.

Broadneck 20, James Madison (Va.) 7: The host Bruins (1-1) beat the Warhawks (3-2). Olivia Orso, Lily Trout and Nora Lopes each scored four goals for Broadneck.

John Carroll 10, Mercy 7: Annie Minoglio led the win with three goals, while Lydia Ward, Grace Marchetti and Haley Laur each hit the net twice. Emmie King also scored. Pieper McCue excelled on draws, winning 12 controls.

Softball

South Carroll 11, Linganore 6: The Cavaliers took the lead with seven runs in the top of the second, and after surrendering six runs in the first two innings, their pitching shut out the Lancers the rest of the way. Kinleigh Smith had two hits and three RBIs in the win. Maddie Wright and Sophia Pugliese each drove in two runs.
