Cuomo attorneys seek to toss out subpoena, claim videos contradict harassment allegations
NEW YORK (NEWS10) -- Attorneys for former New York governor Andrew Cuomo have asked a court to toss out a subpoena against him. It was issued in connection with a federal lawsuit filed by Charlotte Bennett, one of the women who accused him of sexual harassment.
Cuomo's attorneys cite new videos that Bennett recorded that described her experience working for the governor. His lawyers argue the videos contradict many of the allegations against him. Bennett, who said the then-governor made unwanted advances, also sued three of Cuomo's top aides and the state of New York in 2023 for unspecified damages.
The court has since released those videos.
Cuomo resigned in August 2021 after 11 women came forward with harassment allegations. He has denied any wrongdoing.
The United States Justice Department concluded in January that more than a dozen employees were harassed. Although a representative for Cuomo said the former governor and his top aides were never interviewed for that investigation. The state is required to change its response to harassment and discrimination allegations.
