Match Preview: Farnborough vs Chippenham Town

Red-hot Farnborough return to the Saunders Transport Community Stadium this Good Friday to take on an also in-form Chippenham Town side.

Boro now only sit outside the Play-Off places on goal difference after a fantastic 3-0 win away at Weston-super-Mare on Tuesday night.

Joe Haigh opened the scoring in the 19th minute from a Guy Hollis long throw. Three minutes later, Jordan Norville-Williams doubled The Yellows’ lead from another long throw. It took until the 77th minute for Farnborough to add a third. Haigh put Norville-Williams through down the left and his shot flew in for his second, Farnborough’s third, and all three points. The win extended Boro’s winning run to six games.

Chippenham Town have also been in fantastic form recently. The visitors have won their previous four games – including victories over Yeovil Town and Worthing – to cement themselves as outside Play-Off contenders.

The Bluebirds came from behind to beat Welling United 4-1 in their last game. Jack Burchell put The Wings ahead in the 10th minute – a lead they would hold for 56 minutes, before Luke Haines got Chippenham Town back on level terms. Tyreke Johnson put The Bluebirds back ahead, before Tom Owen-Evans doubled their advantage. Johnson added his second a minute before the end to give Gary Horgan’s side their fourth successive win.

Ahead of Chippenham Town’s visit, Yellows boss Spencer Day was wary of the threat that opposition possess: “They’re passing the ball around for fun. They’ve had the advantage of not playing tonight.”

“It’s a free hit for them and it’s such another difficult game, but what a group we’ve got here at the moment.”

The previous match between the two sides ended in  a 1-2 defeat for Farnborough. Dan Ellison put Chippenham Town ahead just 12 minutes in, with Caine Bradbury doubling The Bluebirds lead three minutes after half-time. Michael Folivi pulled one back for Boro with half an hour to go, but it wasn’t enough as Edon Pruti saw red five minutes later and the hosts were able to hold on.

Boro will need to be wary of Chippenham Town’s excellent away form this season. The Bluebirds have picked up more points on the road this season than they have at home, with seven wins, eight draws and just four defeats on their travels.

It’s been an excellent run so far. Let’s keep it going as we push for the Play-Offs. Come on Farnborough!
