Can I manage who my child talks to on Fortnite? How to access game’s parental controls
FORTNITE attracts millions of players every month and many of them are children.
One of the big appeals is the ability to game with others in a live battle arena and even chat with their voice.
Naturally, not all parents feel comfortable with that.
However, there are some parental controls to help steer kids away from strangers.
Firstly, it’s important to note that there are now many different ways you can play Fortnite beyond the well-recognised Battle Royale. Today there’s also:
- LEGO Fortnite – a survival crafting game that inspires players’ creativity in a familiar, safe and secure environment with minifigures.
- Fortnite Festival – a music game where players can play in a band with friends or perform solo on stage with hit music by their favorite artists.
- Rocket Racing – a supersonic arcade racer where players drift, fly, and boost with friends through an ever-growing selection of tracks.
How do I set up Parental Controls on Fortnite?
You can access Fortnite Parental Controls by going to the Epic Games login page and signing into your child’s account.
Select the Parental Controls button on the left side of the screen to enter your Parental Controls PIN code (or create a new six-digit PIN if you don’t have one already).
Here you can set or modify more than a dozen settings, including controls for voice chat, purchasing, friend requests, Fortnite playtime tracking reports and more.

From the Fortnite lobby, click on the account icon in the top right corner.
Navigate to Settings, click on Parental Controls and enter your parental controls PIN to make changes to your child’s settings.
Can I manage who my child talks to in Fortnite?
Yes, from the Parental Controls you can manage who your child talks to on Fortnite.
There are four options to choose from:
- Everybody – allows your child to chat with any player.
- Friends and Teammates – allows your child to chat with players in their Epic friends list and platform friends list, as well as other players on their team who they may not be friends with.
- Friends Only – allows your child to chat only with players in their Epic friends list and platform friends list.
- Off – stops your child from chatting to anyone at all via Fortnite.
It’s important to check out the voice chat settings on the console your child is playing on as well.
If you turn off Epic’s voice chat in Fortnite, your child may still be able to access voice chat using the chat system built into your console.
