The Crown star says Netflix saga should never be extended to cover Princess Kate’s cancer fight
THE Crown star Gillian Anderson says the hit Netflix show should never be revived.
The 55-year-old star, who played PM Margaret Thatcher in the series, said the privacy of the King and Princess Kate amid their cancer treatments must be respected.
The Crown’s final series — out last year — ended the timeline in 2005.
Reacting to suggestions of more episodes, Gillian said: “I think it probably ended at the right spot.
“It was getting too close to present day.
“Right now, it’s a moment where we understand that they have asked for a bit of peace and quiet around what they’re experiencing — and it feels like that’s the least that we can do.
“I think in this instance with this latest double whammy of news, the least that people can do, is to give them a bit of a break and for them to process this as the human beings that they actually are.”
It comes as she continues her run of success with Netflix’s next big Royal scandal show, Scoop, about Prince Andrew’s Newsnight interview has made headlines worldwide.
She plays BBC journalist Emily Maitlis, who famously probed the prince about his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2019.
The Princess of Wales, 42, courageously announced her health battle in a moving video last week in which she reassured the world she was “going to be OK”.
Sitting on a bench surrounded by daffodils at Windsor Castle, she discussed her “huge shock” at the cancer discovery and explained how she had began a course of “preventative chemotherapy” late in February.
Since sharing the news, charities have reported seeing an increasing number of hits on their websites, with visits to the NHS cancer symptoms webpage averaging one every three seconds in the hours that followed.
Meanwhile, visits to the cancer homepage were also five times higher than normal over 24 hours.
