Pictures inside abandoned nursing home are straight out of a horror film
Photos of abandoned Zimmer frames and piles of incontinence pants scattered throughout a fire damaged nursing home have emerged after an ‘urbex explorer’ made his way through the creepy property.
Nottinghamshire Abbeymoor Nursing Home in Worksop closed in 2017, and has been abandoned since.
In 2023, a fire ripped through the building, with crews from both Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire attending to the scene.
Although the fire was eventually put out, only about half of the property could be saved.
Two men aged 27 and 33 were detained on suspicion of arson after being treated in hospital, with the 27-year-old suffering injuries believed to be potentially life-threatening, The BBC reported at the time.
Kyle Urbex, who took the photos said the fire ‘left very little hope’ for the future of the property.
‘It remains empty and in a state of ruins ever since closing.
‘Going round proved difficult at times. I did uncover one room that was quite sad with a Zimmer frame.
‘A chair and some personal items left inside which made it really quite sad in a way how those in the care home environment must feel day in day out spending all their time in a care home.
‘I quite enjoyed this one and had a good explore that’s for sure.
‘While the residence in the quiet town of Worksop was in a quiet area, it was adjacent to the railway which caused regular complaints by the elderly residents in the home,’ he added.
The fire isn’t the only reason the former nursing home has received negative press.
In 2007, 103-year-old Esme Collins was evicted from Abbeymoor Home when the owner asked her to pay more for her care.
Nottinghamshire County Council had eventually agreed to pay the money, but the home turned down the offer.
Six weeks after moving into a new residence, Esme passed away.
Campaigners have highlighted her tragic case as a harrowing reminder to treat people with dignity in their final days, and prioritise social care.
