‘Works every time’ gardening fan raves about £1.20 hack to keep slugs away from plants – & the answer’s in your fridge
A GARDENING fan has revealed a simple hack to keep slugs and snails from eating your plants – and it uses something you would usually throw away.
Slugs and snails can wreak havoc on your garden, and can be notoriously hard to get rid of.
Using slug pellets can be damaging to wildlife, so if you are looking for a more natural solution, one woman may have found the answer.
Posting in the Gardening Hints and Tips Facebook group, one avid gardener said: “Are slugs and snails eating your seedlings, sunflowers and small fruit and veg plants?
“Try putting plastic milk cartons with the top and bottom cut off over the plant.
“This will stop slugs and snails because they have no scent trail to follow.
“It works for me every time.
“You can even use them with the bottom still on to protect young plants from heavy rain or cold nights.”
She added: “This also stops slugs and snails getting to the base of the stems and eating right through them.”
Not only is this hack super cheap (a carton of milk is around £1.20), it reduces waste, as it puts to good use something that you would otherwise throw way.
Facebook users raced to the comments section to praise the woman for her hack.
One person said: “Great to read this.
“I didn’t want to use slug pellets as they are not good for the wildlife.”
