Easter Monday puny surf but sunny skies

Hello Friends,

A healthy “why not?” crew sitting at Dee Why point by 0830 Monday morning. It’s another beautiful sunny day coming up and the barely-there NNW breeze is just tickling the ocean surface. Swell at sea was a 1.2 metres at 11 seconds and coming from the SE out at the MHL buoy as of 0600, so pretty much unchanged from yesterday. That being the case, I would assume that places with waves yesterday will have them again today. I skipped a surf and went for a bike ride from Northy to Manly yesterday and there was an obvious difference between Dee Why and Curly. The latter actually had shoulder high sets, while the former was barely waist high.

If the models have it right, the swell energy levels should fade out across the day as the average period drops below the 10 second mark. At the same time, we can expect the NE wind to build up to the usual 15-20 kts this afternoon. If the swell models have it right, the short period stuff should prevail until midweek before perking up into the 10+ second range as the swell regime goes dead south, the wind turns SE and we enter a rainy and showery period that lasts through next weekend.

Go forth and enjoy the day!
