Horns Report: Texas women knocked out in Elite 8; have plenty of pieces returning to make another run
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The top-seeded Texas Longhorns exited the NCAA women's basketball tournament earlier than they had hoped, falling Sunday to North Carolina State in the Elite Eight.
The Wolfpack, the No. 3 seed in the region, went on a 17-2 run in the second quarter and held off the Longhorns for a 76-66 win and a spot in the Final Four. It's the third time in four seasons the Longhorns have been eliminated in the Elite Eight.
While the dream of a national championship is over this season, expect the Longhorns to make more deep runs in the tournament for years to come. Even with the program's shift to the Southeastern Conference where they'll face top-flight programs South Carolina and Louisiana State regularly, they'll have the firepower to produce nationally-relevant squads.
