The Aspiring Directors Institute and the NIRSA School return

NIRSA is thrilled to unveil the return of the highly anticipated NIRSA School for Early Career Professionals, scheduled to take place December 10–12, 2024 in Louisville, KY. After a hiatus, this reimagined event promises three days of intensive cohort learning development, bringing together professionals in campus recreation for a transformative experience.

In addition to the NIRSA School, the Association has also announced the upcoming Aspiring Directors Institute, slated for July 9–11, 2024 in Portland, Oregon. These two events mark significant milestones in NIRSA’s commitment to fostering professional development leadership skills within the field of campus recreation.

Both the NIRSA School and the Aspiring Directors Institute share certain key features. These include smaller cohort sizes to facilitate personalized learning experiences and expert-led sessions by faculty comprising subject matter specialists. However, there are distinct differences that cater to varying career stages and aspirations within the field.

The NIRSA School is tailored specifically for early career professionals with less than five years of experience in the field. It focuses on equipping participants with foundational skills and knowledge essential for excelling in campus recreation, as well as establishing best practices in the field.

Conversely, the Aspiring Directors Institute targets mid-level professionals seeking to advance their careers in student affairs. This unique program brings together individuals from diverse functional areas including campus housing, college unions, student activities, and collegiate recreation. By fostering cross-association collaboration, the institute aims to develop skills, competencies, and networks essential for aspiring leaders in higher education.
