Group of county executives return from southern border
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A group of county executives from New York state have returned from a trip to the southern border. According to the National Association of Counties, the goal of the visit was to learn more about the migrant crisis and how to best address the surge.
Albany County Exec. Dan McCoy said the group will be sending their recommendations to state and federal officials.
"The one thing I did take away was that the left and right hand aren't communicating," he said. "There are all these issues that need to be addressed, and we need the federal government to come in and coordinate this effort, but more importantly, to work with everybody."
According to McCoy, Albany County is currently housing 900 asylum seekers, the largest population of migrants in New York outside of New York City.
