Hospital sealed off after woman who ‘swallowed poison’ was rushed to A&E
A section of a London hospital has been shut down after a woman who ingested poison was brought in.
Areas in Croydon Hospital were sealed off this morning after reports of a woman being treated for a poisoning.
Met Police said officers were called at 3.46am by London Ambulance Service to reports of a woman having ingested poison in Thornton Heath, south London.
Two Metropolitan Police officers exposed to the substance are also in the Croydon University Hospital, formerly the Mayday, under observation.
The force said in a statement: ‘Police were called at 3.46am by London Ambulance Service to reports of a woman having ingested poison at an address in Thornton Heath.
‘The woman was taken to a South London hospital by LAS where she was found to be in possession of a possible hazardous substance.’
Officers and the fire brigade set up safety cordons and closures while specialist officers ‘examined the item and safety procedures were enacted’, the Met said.
Ambulances and emergency vehicles are being given access to the hospital throughout the incident.
