Talking to the new owner of Scene One Spectrum 8 Theatres
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Residents of Albany are gearing up for the grand reopening of Scene One Spectrum 8 Theatres, set for Wednesday. In light of the grand reopening, NEWS10 caught up with the new owner Joe Masher, of Scene One Entertainment, to see what patrons can expect, not just at the reopening, but long term for the Albany favorite.
"Honestly, it’s truly an honor for me to take on the Spectrum," said Masher. "I’m looking forward to greeting our loyal guests and growing our audience through community engagement and awareness."
Masher, a Troy native, also took over the Scene One Wilton Mall Cinema in March. When asked what led him to take over the theatre, he recounted the movies he'd seen thanks to the venue.
"It was my favorite theatre in the area growing up, I saw many, many independent and foreign films there. I couldn’t stand to see it go away. Thankfully, Keith Pickard (original owner) reached out to me."
Under the new ownership, Masher says there are plenty of new things that moviegoers can look forward to.
"The theater will return to its roots. We will feature the Spectrum’s special recipe Mint Brownies, Walnut Brownies, and Banana Bread. We’ll still have real butter served over fresh, hot popcorn. We’ve brought in Coke Zero Sugar and Seagram’s Ginger Ale. We are in the process of applying for a liquor license. The art gallery is back! [Also] we will offer Discount Tuesdays, $7 for all seats for all 2D movies."
As for the grand reopening, Masher set the table for Wednesday.
"We will cut a ribbon at 11 a.m., then serve Motor Oil Coffee and samples of our proprietary Brownies and Banana Bread, as well as Popcorn with Real Butter."
All movie tickets on Wednesday will be $5 with all ticket sales going to support Youth FX. Youth FX is an organization that empowers young people by teaching the technical and creative aspects of filmmaking and media production.
On Wednesday, the theatre will have showings of classic movies, followed by new releases being shown on Thursday. A full list of showings is available on our website.
